toast

Posted 30 March, 2009 in Weight loss, Weight Loss | No comments

I am down one more pound! This is good! But already am going crazy because I want toast. I haven’t had a piece of bread for a few days now and I can taste it. Toast: with butter and honey. Toast: with peanutbutter and jelly. Toast: with cinnamon and sugar. Toast: English muffin with cream cheese and prune chutney; which I haven’t had in years, but I can imagine just how delicious it is. It is messing with my mind, I tell you. And I can hear the song of the whale crackers in the fridge. They say that the humpback whale is the “singing whale” but they need to add cheddar whales to that classification. I hear their song and it is lovely; makes me want to join in…

Monday morning …

Posted 30 March, 2009 in Weight loss, Weight Loss | No comments

Well its been a few days since I posted but here’s a quick update ….

I’ve spent the last few days at my parents due to feeling awful, I have been surprised by how wiped out i have felt - partly by the op and partly through taking in almost no calories for days.

Here is a summary of my Post Op few days for anyone who goes through it and wants a unscientific reference point.

Wed - Day 1 … came out of hospital, pretty much threw up anything I ate - felt awful and worried

Thu - Day 2 … felt little better, still throwing up regularly, managing to take in liquid and yogurt (just very little) - still felf awful and worried (decided to go to my parents)

Fri - Day 3 … Last time I’ve was sick was at 2am Fri, since then felt progressively better and managed to eat more semi solids (although still in very small amounts - 3 or 4 teaspoons at a time). Still feel sick all the time - a little less than before but no actual nausea.

Sat - Day 4 … Just feeling a little better all the time, liquid intake OK - still very nervous about food but no actual sickness. managed to eat 2 spoons of soft mash and a spoon of M&S minced beef - seems like a great triumph.

Sun - Day 5 … Continuing to feel better, managed a little more food through the day, no actual sickness, still feel very strange inside, only really feel slightly sick now but its managable

General point i’d like to make is my surprise at my complete lack of energy but given almost no intake for several days, I guess its not to shocking !!

Breakfast

Posted 30 March, 2009 in Weight loss, Weight Loss | No comments

oatmealIf you do any reading about weight loss, you have probably read a lot about the importance of eating breakfast. The idea is that eating breakfast soon after arising gets your metabolism going and helps regulate your appetite throughout the rest of the day. For me, eating breakfast has never been a problem, as I grew up eating breakfast. The challenge has been finding food choices that not only support my nutritional and weight-loss needs but are also convenient and fast and easy to prepare. Since I recently got back on the Zone diet, I have found some choices that fit the bill perfectly.

With a little prep work on Sunday evening, I can have a whole week’s worth of breakfasts in my refrigerator/freezer and ready to eat in about five minutes in the morning. My breakfast of choice for workday mornings is the following, which is a 3-block Zone-balanced meal:

2/3 c. cooked steel-cut oats
1/3 c. unsweetened applesauce
1/4 c. Nancy’s Organic Cottage Chese
2 Morningstar Farms Soy Sausage Links
1 1/2 tsp. almond butter
dash of cinnamon and nutmeg

I prepare my steel-cut oats on Sunday evening. I buy McCann’s Irish Oats and cook them according to the directions on the canister. One cup of dry steel-cut oats makes enough for the rest of the week’s breakfasts. After the oats are cooked, I put them in a glass bowl with a lid and keep them in my refrigerator. In the morning, I measure out 2/3 c. of oats and heat them for 1 1/2 minutes in the microwave. I mix in the applesauce, almond butter, cinnamon and nutmeg while heating up the soy sausage links on a small glass plate in the microwave for about one minute. I also measure out 1/4 c. of the cottage cheese. Once everything is ready to go, I eat it while putting on my makeup. This breakfast is fast, tasty and satisfying, and it keeps me full until my morning break, when I eat another small, Zone-balanced snack.

For mornings when I don’t have even a few minutes to spare, I keep Dr. Sears’ Zone Bars on hand. They are available at www.zonediet.com and they come in several flavors. I have tried Lemon Yogurt, Iced Oatmeal Raisin, Apple Cinnamon and Sweet & Salty Nut Crunch and they are all delicious! They are also formulated to keep you in the Zone. Each bar is the equivalent of two Zone blocks, so on these days I usually get a small (8 oz.) unflavored latte made with 2% milk from the coffee shop across the street from where I work to make a 3-block breakfast.

What are some of your favorite fast and nutritious breakfasts?

Sweat

Posted 30 March, 2009 in Weight loss, Weight Loss | No comments

Dear God!  That workout was hard!  Or should I say those three workouts?

I borrowed a workout DVD from work that promised five 12 minute workouts that you could do throughout the week.  (It’s “Get Fit Daily Dozen” by Denise Austin).   You’re supposed to do a single 12 minute workout every day and count that as your exercise quota.  But here’s the problem: I promised myself that I’d do 30 minutes a day, minimum.  So, I had to do 3 of the 12 minute workouts.

The first workout was the “cardio-athletic” one.  It wasn’t that hard, except for learning the moves.  I think it’ll be a lot easier the next time I do it.

The second one was the lower body/ab sculpt.  That was really, really hard…  well, the abs part was hard.  Think about it.  You’re doing the plank (which is hard enough to do on its own) and then she wants you to do a donkey kick with it.  OW?!?  That’s just one exercise.

The third one was the cardio kickboxing one.  That one was kind of fun, but by then I was exhausted and covered in sweat.

I’ll have to try it again tomorrow…  I’ll do the Cardio kickboxing, upperbody/ab sculpt, and yoga stretch.  We’ll see what happens.

By the way…  I’m halfway to my goal AND I’m at my driver’s license weight!  Yay!

Weight Gain

bathroom-scale

So one of the things that just totally stopped when my IVF started was my diet and weight loss tracker. I stopped tracking what I was eating, stopped weighting myself and pretty much just focused on the IVF at hand. This morning I figured it was a good time to get back on the bathroom scale, I mean, I’m already depressed, its not like looking and seeing what damage has been done was going to make a damn bit of difference to my frame of mind. I knew my weight would be up, not necessarily because I’ve gone crazy over the last month, but also because of all the hormones and medications. And I was right, 2.3kg’s up in one month. Despite how depressed I’m feeling, today is probably as good a day as any to get back to my healthy eating, I do believe it had an impact on how well my IVF progressed, despite the massive failure at the end.

I’ll be updating my Weight Loss Journal on a daily basis again. I think I my battle with the motivation for it right now as I think I’m depressed and have a very bad case of Who Gives A Sh*t but I suppose I’ll have to give a sh*t. I mean, if my eating plan played any role in the high number of good quality eggs we got in our last IVF, then I suppose I’ll have to give a sh*t in case we do another IVF somewhere down the drag, or, and this would be bloody hilarious, in case I actually fell pregnant like most women do, from having sex.

This probably sounds pathetic, but I’m so demotivated, miserable and depressed at the moment, I’m actually having a hard time giving a sh*t about anything.

Lose The Belly And The Love Handles

Posted 30 March, 2009 in Weight loss, Weight Loss | No comments

If you wish to burn that stubborn belly fat and pair of love handles remember that no one actually wants to have those which means you can always find someone out there who can help you. In our current reality today, having ugly fat in your body usually leads to having low self esteem. Therefore, in our society, we always have to look our best and always feel good about ourselves.

Now our objective for this is to give you ideas and exact tips on how to help yourself get rid of your beer belly fat along with the love handles. Anyway, the love handles are the fat that is attached around the sides of your abdomen. For those who want to focus on burning fat in this area then I would recommend that you start seeing fat as something that is in your whole body. Diet, exercise and fitness work as a whole.

To get yourself started, you would need to start doing cardiovascular exercises and strength or resistance exercise. You need some variations on your exercise routines. Do not just walk on the treadmill for a long time until your body becomes way too worn out. Include interval training in your workout routine. This will help add up a few variations to your workout and different intensity help your body increase its metabolism and cardiovascular capacity.

While cardiovascular exercises help you instantly burn fat. With strength training you would be able to boost your progress in burning your beer belly fat and love handles. If you are new at strength training you can try a few abdominal exercises such as sit ups and a few crunches or if you want, you can try getting yourself a Pilates program. It has been known to get rid of belly fat and tone the abdominal muscles helping you achieve a lean and a healthy body.

I don’t advocate reducing the food that you eat when it comes to diet. You can eat the amount of food that you usually eat but you have to eat the right food for you. Stay away from eating foods that can make you fat like those that have high amount of calories, fats and oils. To help boost your health and metabolism eat more fruits and vegetables.
